Practicing mindfulness is not just a moment, it is a lifestyle. So even doing mundane chores, one must learn to be present and only focus on the task at hand. There are two ways to wash the dishes. The first is to wash the dishes in order to have clean dishes and the other way is to wash the dishes in order to wash the dishes. Be very aware of the present…. It will end up completely vanishing if you are not mindful.
Another lesson of mindfulness comes with eating. A friend and myself were traveling and we sat down to enjoy an orange while we rested after a hike. My friend started eating a section of an orange and became immersed in talking about the next half of our hike (the future). As he went to put another section of orange in his mouth, all I had to say was “you should eat the orange section you have already taken”. This is a situation where one isn’t actually eating anything, instead they are eating the present and future simultaneously destroying both. An orange has sections so if you can eat one section you can probably eat the whole thing, but if you can’t eat a single section, you can’t eat the orange. Remember to embrace life and be one with everything you do. This is the first step of mindfulness.

Thich Nhat Hanh
“When we are in the midst of chaos, let go of the need to control it. Be awash in it, experience it in that moment, try not to control the outcome but deal with the flow as it comes”
